Shaving Mole Removal

There are tons of people that have moles they’d love to have removed. One of the easiest and least expensive ways to remove an unwanted mole is to simply shave it off. Shaving mole removal works by taking a regular shaving blade and moving it across the skin tautly, passing over the mole. This should leave nothing but smooth skin and the mole will be cut away. Apply pressure and a bandage to heal up quickest.

Know Your Moles

When using shaving as a form of mole removal, it really helps to know the kind of mole with which you’re dealing. Moles that hang off the skin like little flags are called “skin tags”. Skin tags that are not very large or do not have any sensation in them are easily removed by shaving. A doctor should remove larger skin tags or skin tags with sensation in them. They most likely have too much blood flow to be safely removed by shaving.

“Nevi moles” are the typical round moles found on most people. The majority of these are flat with perfectly symmetrical shape. A few of them are raised and bump-like. The raised, bump-like nevi are usually easily removed using the shaving removal technique. Shaving of course doesn’t work on flat birthmarks. If the mole you need gone doesn’t have a symmetrical shape, see a doctor before removing it in case it’s malignant.

How to Shave off a Mole

When removing a skin tag via shaving, the main trick is to make sure you get it at the base. Smaller skin tags are removed easily because the skin doesn’t get in the way of the razor cutting away at the base. Simply use shaving cream on your skin and run the razor along the skin as if shaving. Larger skin tags can also be removed via shaving, but a single, open razor blade will work better than an enclosed razor. If the mole is large enough, pinch it and pull before you slice directly through the base.

Raised nevi mole removal is just like removing a smaller skin tag. Apply the shaving cream then run the razor along the skin as if shaving. As a raised nevi isn’t as far raised as a skin tag, you may need to press harder to ensure that you cut off the patch of bumped, colored skin. Try to make sure your hand is steady and that the blade does not go up and over the mole. Shaving off beauty marks doesn’t always assure the mole won’t come back.

Once the mole has been removed, stop the bleeding by adding pressure to the wound. Antibiotic cream and a small bandage should be applied for sanitation and Neosporin is ideal for hastening the healing process. If shaving fails, there are other options such as removal creams or getting a doctor to surgically remove the unwanted mole. Try talking to your doctor to find the best course of mole removal that will last for the longest.
